Enterprise Content Management is a superset of document imaging and includes a number of technologies:
Electronic documents are typically entered into information management systems using taxonomy and metadata to enable simple search and retrieval from those systems.
- Taxonomy — A formal structure for electronically stored documents; documents are placed in categories based on content, date, authors, keywords, etc.
- Metadata — Information about an electronic document, such as when it was created, who the author is, and keywords that describe the content.
